car: 1991 nissan 240sx hatchback
engine: ka24de
transmission:manual
add-ons: -k and n typhoon CAI
-dc sports 4-2-1 headers
just replaced: -slave cylinder(clutch)
-master cylinder(clutch)
-battery
-fuel filter
symptoms: -hesitation
-rough idle
-stalling at idle
-loss of power
-engine jerks

so I've been dealing with the same problem for about two weeks now. It wont go away nor can I find an explanation for it. My car has a ROUGH idle. The RPMs will bounce off 0 and about 300. If the thing doesn't stall right there, it will return to normal and 15 seconds later it will stall. when I have my foot on the gas just slightly, the engine will start jumping and the whole car shakes with it. If I accelerate fast, sometimes it feels like i just lost 10 horses. God forbid I come to a stop light now, for stalling is almost imminent. I feel like a loser when everyone around me looks at me weird because I have to turn my car back on when the green light comes. I'm really starting to lose patience with my car. Its been nothing but problems nowadays. I'm begging for a solution. I'll answer any questions you guys have about it. Please help :(

I have had a similar issue. I have a 91 ka24de coupe with a 5 speed. Mine started with a rough idle, loss of power, and lots of shaking when stopping or idling. I tested my injectors and one of them was bad. I replaced it and the car ran fine. About two weeks later, I got the same thing. Replaced yet another injector and again the car was fixed. It has been a few weeks and I found that my MAF was bad due to the car now idling fine, but when I push the throttle it falls on its face. My suggestion for you would be to check the resistance of your injectors. One may be bad and either dumping fuel or not giving any to one cylinder. Sorry for almost threadjacking ya....on to start my own thread....

check fuel and fire. also check ur timing. injectors should be between 10-14 ohms, timing should be 17-20* btdc

damn, well I hope its not that...

To update.. My car will not start anymore. Bad starter? who knows. I think i'm experiencing like 2-3 problems all at once. I think the problem is electrical because this problem is RANDOM. the car may run fine on one start and like complete s*** on the next. I tested the battery and its completely charged. so maybe the starter just died? but a bad starter wouldn't foul up my whole engine, right? so there must be another problem.. I checked all visible hose connections and everything seems to be in check.. Need new spark plugs? could bad ones make my engine do this?

A little bit more information: My exhaust fumes smell a little bit worse than they normally do.. And I remember when I put my CAI on, the MAF sensor was missing that thin string that runs in the middle of it.. So basically the MAF sensor is "empty". I heard there is supposed to be mesh inside it or something. Idk, i'm not that familiar with them.. But this can't be the root of the problem because I've been using the same MAF sensor for the last year and this is the first time that my car is doing this.. And another note.. This problem started almost immediately after the mechanics replaced my slave and master cylinders.. Suspicious? yes. Could they have knocked a wire or something out of place causing my car to turn into s***?

i would start by testing the dizzy..inside the distributor is your crank angle sensor..there a re a few things you need to get out of the way fist..#1 the coil...remove 1 spark plug and wire..dosent matter what one...leave the plug in the wire and ground it to sumpin metal..turn the car over and look for spark..if you see any spark at all..coils good and so is your igniter chip...now we moove to the injectors...for this..all you would need to do..is to unbolt the fuild rail with all the injectors in the rail..donot remove the injectors...hold the rail up so you can see the injectors clearly..but not pointing at your face..lol...have a buddy turn the key to the on position to prime the fuel rail...if you see any gas..you have an o ring issue..if nothing...have your buddy crank the car over..if you see each injector (fire) spray gas..then the injectors are good...if not..then you need to remove the injector clips..and OHM test each injector..if they all test good..then its time to remove the dizzy and run a test on that...(Disclaimer)depending on what you find you may or maynot have a ecu issue..sometimes the injector blocks do fail on ecu's..its not uncommon..good luck..keep us posted.

I really don't think it is an injector problem because the problem is random. I fit was an injector problem, it would constantly run like s***. I think its my MAF sensor or the TPS sensor.

To Update: I replaced the starter. $225 :|... The car runs a lot better now. The problem I had comes in every here and there but no where near as frequently as it was. Weird, right? well now I'm going to replace the MAF sensor. If that doesn't solve the problem then I'll replace the TPS sensor. IF that doesn't solve it, I'm considering selling or trading it in

My car had some simular issues, stalling, missing, loss of power, but not all the time. it was simply a worn out cap and rotor...fixed it right up...check the simple stuff you might be plesently suprised...
