after a rough idle developed on my wife's 1990 240sx I came here and got advice on cleaning the throttle body and air intake box. After my cleaning the problem continued so I dropped it at the dealership for a check up.

The tech's at the dealer want me to pay $800 to replace all fuel injectors and patch everything up but I still think its a air temp sensor or emissions sensor causing the problem. They also told me the injectors were leaking (all of them) and that they hadn't seen that on a 240 before.

so who's crazy here??? could all 4 injectors go at the same time or is somebody financing their Christmas on my dollar???

opinions appreciated....

is it just a rough idle, or does it drive like crap also?

from my own personal experience, my car used to idle like it was having epileptic seizures, but it drove like a champ. i could have sworn it was my leaking injector (someday i'll get that fixed), but turns out i just needed new wires and plugs.

if it is your injectors, it's a good practice to replace all of them, and alot less expensive if you do it yourself.

Yes it is possible that the injectors can leak all at the same time. Check the basics first, plugs wires, vac leaks etc. Leaking injectors can cause a rough idle do to uneven fuel distribution to the cyl. or parcely clogged inj. can do the same. Also don't leave out electrical connections such as coolant temp sensor and airflowmeter connection. I've also have seen eng. harness problems on older models.

well, the FIRST thing I did was replace the plugs and use some injector cleaner in the tank, then I cleaned the throttle body up (black carbon deposits all over it) and the problem was still there so I took it to the dealer.

it only idles rough at low RPM's and feels fine under acceleration. I can also hear the timing chain (belt) slapping but thats another problem all together;)
