Rough Idle/ idle jumps/ won't start first try

I have a 1989 300zx non turbo automatic. In the morning when I leave for work, I have to start my car twice. They first time it will start and then die. Then the second time it will start and idle just fine. After the car warms up, I get to a stop sign, and my car idles at 500 rpm then my rpm will jump like crazy, and sometimes die on me. This also happens when I'm in a parking lot and i put it in reverse then my car nearly dies or does die. Then when I shift into drive it does the same thing until i stomp on the gas. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a problem with your idle air control system, would test and adjust per: http://z32.wikispaces.com/Idle+Control
Also would check your TPS to be sure: http://z32.wikispaces.com/Throttle+Position+Sensor
Wouldn't be a bad idea to also pull your engine codes even if you don't have the light on: http://z32.wikispaces.com/ECU+Diagnostics
