I've finally put ca18det into my s13, but it doesn't run well at all =( First, as I've said in the title, the idle is rough, for some reason, the rev would go up to around 1100-1200 randomly but slowly. Second, Hesitation, when I try to drive the car, the car will not drive smoothly, it hesitates real badly, but the funnie thing is that If I step the accelerate pedal all the way down it'll drive a little better. I really don't know how to describe it, but I guess hesitation is the best word to describe it. When I try rev the engine while it's in idle and in neutral, it won't even rev smoothly. Oh yeah, when i drive i heard popping sound in the exhaust. Once, the car gets into boost, the car will run smoothly. can someone please help me??

checked timing, and it's fine. i think it has to do with the ecu that came with the engine. the ecu is tuned for bigger injectors, and I am leaning out, i am not sure... guess i should open up the ecu and see if there is a rom in there.

good point! i'll check that for sure. think it might be the ecu though??? also, on the passenger side of the engine, there are 4 vaccum connections. i know one which is the very top one is for fpr, what about the rest of the 3?? and if you could name them in order from top down. thanks!

I didn't have the FICV tightened back down enough and the car ran like absolute *** until I snugged up the other 2 bolts. It would only boost to about 4 pounds. But now I got it as high as 9 and chickened out since I am still breaking in the new clutch. So even just a small vacuum/boost leak will affect the performance in a dramatic way.
