I hate to make this suggestion, but did you use a lube while seating your injectors? Look around the rail for brown run marks from gas leaking out of your upper o-rings. I speak from experience. If the gas smell is that strong, the source of the leak shall be evident.

do you mean a lube to get the o-rings on? I used a bit of motor oil but dried it off before seating the new injectors.. which was recommended

Vasaline made the injectors seat easier than oil (rubber mallet method). Ive tried both methods, as long as your not using wd-40 or a lube that wont evaporate and degrade the pintle.

what about a PB Blaster soak.. followed by motor oil?

PB Blaster soak, and allowed to sit and dry overnight.. then oil to actually get them on the injector that is

never heard of it.....I just use a large flathead screwdriver to remove injectors. place the flathead under the stem that connects to the wiring and turn the flathead like your screwing in a bolt, the injector will come out effortlessly (370cc side feed injectors)

I'm not talkin about removing the injectors.. I mean when putting new ones in, sometimes substances like PB Blaster warp the rubber o-rings.. but i guess as long as you use motor oil as well and they don't warp too much when putting them on it should be okay

I just use vasoline and OEM injectors only. Its worth the money for OEM, trust me. Rebuilt ones suck and bosch (botch) are even worse than rebuilt. Get OEM unless you like to do things five or six times....

I'd do a vac/boost leak check as well. If they didn't seal well to the lower plenum that would cause a significant vac leak.

The gas smell could be the fuel pressure regulator hose, did mine last year.

is the smell coming from the exhaust or under the hood?

sounds like it could be a dead miss.

check the ignition system and all that good stuff to see if its getting spark.
