1991 Nissan 240sx HatchbackKA24DE 144K MilesN/A

Ok so needed to open up my front timing cover because i needed to replace the idler sprocket bolt. After i did that i went ahead and set the timing right just like the one on the Jim Wolf timing procedure.

So i went a head and start the car no problem but then i get a rough idle.

It seems like the car just wants to die but it just keeps working and working. My RPM stays just around 800-1000. Everything on the dash is fine, its just the engine shakes quite a bit more than usual.

When i rev the car up to about 4-5k RPM the engine doesnt shake as much as when its on idle. So i think i am off the timing a little?

Just making sure this is my problem so i wanted to ask you guys. Thanks

Did you mark the cam locations on the belt, cam, and head before you removed them? If you did.. and you put them back together with those marks still aligned.. it should be fine. Can you double check those marks?

Is the belt too tight??? If it's tight, the motor will stuggle to turn it and you'll get a poor idle.

Conversely, Make sure the belt is tight enough! Be sure the belt didn't skip a tooth or something.

ka24de...... Timing CHAIN... Your cam could be off one tooth. OR when you tightened did you keep the slack out?Did you set your timing afterwards?

hey. its me again. im havin a similar problem. but my idle is at about 2 grand and itll drop for a sec or 2 to 1200 or so then shoot back up to 2k. when i put mine back together i left the slack in between the sprocket gears on top. should the slack be on the tensioner side?
