Rough idle 3000rpm!

Hello, i just recently bought a 96 pathfinder cheap due to budget. It drove decent the first two weeks and now whenever i put my car in park the rpm jumps up to 3000!! also when i switch from drive to reverse it gives a strong jolt like its taking off really hard. vice versa if i switch back from reverse to drive. Now im no mechanic expert but if the fix is reasonable i will try it myself. Anyone have any advice as to what i should look for? thank you.

The jolt is likely due to the high idle and worn u-joints. If you have access to a vise, you can replace them yourself. Otherwise, remove the driveshaft and take it to a shop for them to replace. U-joints are cheap.

Any engine codes? Check engine light on? It might shed some light on the high idle.
