Rough accelaration

hello all,

i noticed twice on different days that my 1995 has a rough accelaration. while on the freeway, probably around 55-65 it runs fine but when i press the gas a little harder, for a quick accelaration (big rig truck behind me!!!), it hesitates, like surging. but if I slowly gas it, it picks up okay.

what would be the cause of this surging/hesitation during hard accel?
