I’ve been experiencing strong musty odor inside my car for two months or so (had my Rogue since March this year). Last Monday while changing oil I told the dealer about it – did not find anything. This morning (Friday) while vacuuming inside, I discovered white spots on the carpet - driver side. Without thinking stuck my nose to it and that was it. Took off the carpet to see underneath- all wet with some mold already growing. Brought the car immediately to dealer. Seems like they know about it, service man told me the car could be in for a week, since they most likely will have to do some welding job in their body shop. Will update, as soon I know anything new.

They will have to do some welding?!!?! I would want to know what exactly the hell is going on and why some mold would require welding.

According to the technician improper assembly during production, which allows water infiltrate inside.

Got my car back on Thursday (two days at the dealer) . They did not have to do any welding. After couple of tests they found that water was getting in thru wheel housing liners. They replaced and put new sealants around that area. Washed floor under the carpet (alga), and replaced all elements (styrofoam and plastics) that were rotten. I’ll keep my eye on that floor from now on.

I had the exact same thing in my Rogue on the Drivers side carpet as well. We have not had any measurable rain here for about 3 months (I bought it new in June 2014) and then the skies opened up.

The next day there was a visible pool of water laying in the carpet underneath the driver's seat.

The dealership said they think a "silicone weld" was missed in the manufacturing of the vehicle.

They ended up re-applying silicone under the windshield, the door post etc. and they "think" they have resolved the issue because although the water was pouring in for them when they were looking for the leak they could not determine the exact entry point. So they put silicone everywhere and it stopped coming in.

They said it was not coming from the wheel well area.

Sounds like this is more than an isolated problem!
