I have 2005 nissan maxima with 62,256 miles on the odemeter, the car is still has low miles considering the year but everytime i drive hard the car produce a rotten egg smell and it get inside the car . My question is this a sign of a bad catalytic converter ? I change the cabin air filter and i drain the vacuum lines and fill the ac gas cuz it ran out , i notice that maxima are prone to the rotten egg smell .

This car been doing this ever since i bought it when it only had 30k miles but now is doing it more often than any help will greatly appreciated

Are you getting any check engine lights? The converter is warrantied from the factory for 8years/80000 miles. It would be worth taking it to the dealer to find out for sure if the converter is bad.

Is the smell only present in warm weather? It could be mold on the A/C evaporator. You might try using a product called frigi-fresh.

I can't say that Maxima/I30/I35 is prone to rotten-egg (sulfur) but it does happen, especially to cars which have been driven with bad MAF/O2/injectors for extended period. In your case, since it only happens after a hard drive, most likely it's the converter. And as 'max' mentioned, Federal mandate is 8-yr/80K miles, whichever comes first.

Wow i didn't even know that Nissan warranty catalyc converter up to 80,000 niles . Is great news because it is a very expensive repair so if i buy frigid-fresh where do i have to spay it on ? through the ac vents or do i have to pay a mechanich to do it ? I am really not handy when it comes working on cars .
Almost forget to mention that i am not getting a check engine light ,

Follow the directions on the can. But I believe you turn on the defroster and spray the contents into the fresh air intake on the cowl in front of the wiper blades. You can also get similar results by using Lysol disinfectant.

Yesterday i stop by autozone and i bought a can of AC/Duct cleaner it was a different brand than frigi-fresh i spray along the intake vents under the windshield wiper and crank the ac to max fan , i did spray the whole bottle because i figure it must be a cheaper brand than frigi fresh . I want to say thanks to you guys a simple solution to a problem that even some would not recognize

If this doesn't solve the problem with i think it will because i am not getting a check engine light on i will have no other choice to go to Nissan . Thank you
