The benefit of cross-drilled rotors is improve cooling. The disadvantage is that they have a tendency to crack in extreme weather.

As far as whether or not upgrading to Brembo will be a good investment, I guess it all depends on what kind of driving you do. I drive my 240sx 50 highway miles a day (I know, it hurts... :() on the stockers and never have had a problem. My buddy drives his 240sx and has replaced brake rotors many times because he drives significantly harder. (i.e. 20 miles stop and go traffic, automatic.)

I'm no real expert on brakes. Maybe you should post in the Tires, Wheels, Brakes and Suspension boards... they might have more in-depth answers for you.

If you are looking at brembo blanks:Front: BR25317Rear: BR25172

Ebay is the cheapest I've seen them. Be careful if you are going to auto cross though, they will change the class you are eligable for.

Actually, the cooling properties of a cross-drilled rotor are less than a comparable solid surface rotor. Air is a poor conductor of heat. The metal surface of the rotor can absorb heat from the pad much faster than air. The benefits of cross-drilling are that the holes scrub/clean the surface of the pad to expose new pad material and provide more friction between the pad and rotor. There are also some benefits to cross-drilling when pads overheat. It gives the vaporzing gases from the pad a place to go so that some of the pad can still make contact with the rotor. But that's really only a band-aid fix for a brake overheating problem.
