I need to get new Rotors for my 02 LE 4WD - they looked fine on the outside but after seeing them on the lift when all the fluids were recently changed I feel probably best to change them and lube the hubs .

I have the OE Nissan Pads -- Looks like Pinnacle online sells the Rotors for 82.11 each + shipping. Autohauz has Brembo or Zimmermann for $54.00 plus free shipping. So with shipping the OE rotors are double the price.

Autohauz's web site is listing Brembo as being an OE supplier ? I have had great results with both Brembo or Zimmermann ......... although the last set of Brembos that I bought two months ago for a Lexus -- one set said "Made in China" :nono:

Just wonder if anyone knows who makes the Nissan Rotors. I will normally buy the OE product if I can get it for a reasonable price. And most aftermarket places can not tell you where the individual parts are made -- not sure if Zimmermann is making anything in China

What distance did you get from your OEM discs, I drive a 14 year old QX4 with 155000 miles and am still original front discs and rear brake material. But that includes cleaning and lubricating and adjusting them regularly. The front pads last 60,000 - 70,000 miles. The last set of pads are ceramic so I will see how long they last.

The current front set have about 60k on them -- The pads are down to a little more than 10%. The inner rotor surface is rusted so only the center portion of the inner pad is contacting clean metal -- I was surprised to see it but my mechanic said that it is quite common - we do get a lot of rain and road salt in winter. I don't cut rotors anymore. The fact that the truck did not have 4 wheel disc brakes almost stopped me from buying it originally -- never liked the brakes and I have had a few problems with the rear wheel cylinders. When the truck had about 40K on it the brake light went on while I was away - and a family member took it in -- the dealer cut the rotors and put new pads on it. The real problem was a switch as it failed a few weeks later - had the brakes checked just before leaving and they were fine - so the dealer never really checked it out. The cut rotors and new pads lasted about 30k -- the rotors warped. So this is the second set of rotors -- The invoice for the replacement at 70k lists it as OE Rotors/ Pads. The truck is surprisingly easy on the front pads/rotors.

Since you have turned rotors and they are warped, toss them. Get what you feel are good rotors and compare overall thickness with the thickness of each side of the rotor to OEM. The next time you repair old rotors that are rusted clean the major portion with a rotary sander with a fine grit, wash with varsol and sand again. Then install ceramic new pads and drive with care as the new pads clean the rotors. Depending on how far and long you drive the rotors will be cleaned up and the rotor surface will embed itself to the new pads. In time your front brakes will exceed new pads and rotors with clean discs.

Newer vehicles cannot withstand the turning of rotors because the heat will warp the rotors and the labour vs. replacement rotors makes no sense.

When rebuilding the front brakes do a complete job. The rotors, bearing , pads and calipers have to all work together as a system. Clean sensors and ABS triggering mechanisms and do the rear end, brakes and e brake.

Although the front brakes do most of the stopping the rear brakes must be kept in good shape because of handling and just in case your e brake should be able to stop the rear wheels from turning in an emergency.
