Need to change the studs on front and rear 89 s13... so tonight after work, i started on the rear and i pulled my wheel off, took the caliper off, and then got to the rotor, didnt budge. I know the rears are slip-fit so bang it acouple times and it should pop off right?? NO! i've been wrestling with the thing alll night and nothing. I even started to try and pry it off but no luck, tried liquid wrench, nope. Anyone have any suggestions... also maybe info on how to do the fronts? since i know the front rotors arent slip-fit, so i'm not exactly sure how to get them off yet.

All of the rotors are floating. So, they should come off. Keep tapping that hat portion of the rotor on alternating sides, and spinning the rotor around as you're doing it. Make sure you're using a hammer and not a mallet.

i use a BFH, 3lb surveyors hammer to be exact. they are probably rusted to the hubs, hit hard in between studs to knock it loose.

i have had this not work though, on a buick. i had to find a large pulley puller (crank pulley or steering wheel IIRC), put that on the rotor to axle nut, tighten the hell out of it, and then proceed to hit it again with the BFH.

the rotor was flexing outward due to the puller so once i hit it hard enough again it popped off with quite some force.

but i've never had a S-chassis that was that bad.

i think you can take one of the caliper bolts and thread it through the hole in the rotor and screw it on and it should come off easy.

LoL I've never heard anyone besides the instructors where I went to school use 'BFH' lol

Just make sure your not smacking the contact surface of the rotor (Where the pads and rotor shake hands), the last thing you wanna do is replace your rotors also because you have craters in them. I've yet to do brakes on the 240 (Unfortunatly Ima have to soon), but as LayNLow said, if there's a hole in the middle of the rotor (Not exactly middle, use your head), thread a bolt through (Most Hondas have this). If it has two holes use both and tighten the bolts equally.

But besides that and whacking it with a hammer while loading it up with WD-40, there's not much more you can do. In extremes I would say use an air hammer, but I doubt you have an air compressor. When you do get it off and are ready to put the rotor back, make sure to clean the contact surface of the rotor with a good degreaser (CRC Brakekleen (sp) works well).

if ur replacing it, just slack the rotor face from the back, with a bfh.

My front rotors on my eclipse do this everytime. It's easier to just replace the rotors anyway, so I either cut the hat off of them with a 4 1/2" cutting wheel, or a large 3-jaw puller and a sledgehammer (10lb long handle) to whack them from behind with. The cutter makes a mess though, so try the puller and sledge first. You can get the large puller from azone as a free tool rental.

i had that same problem with my 240 rear brakes(not this bad but i couldnt get them off with out some outside help). i got a 2x4 and my wife hit the end with the hammer. i put the 2x4 on the part where the pads meet the rotor. i needed to reuse them thats why i didnt go ballz out with the hammer. also try heating it up with a small torch, make the metal expand and then try the 2x4 or the bfh. good luck

Definately use a BFH... 3lb linemans hammer or sledge and pound the hat portion of the rotor (mounting surface) in between each area of the studs. You can always hit it from behind with a little pb blaster, etc to loosen it up but the hammer should do the trick by itself.

Then thank god you don't have a captured rotor like most hondas.

When reinstalling the rotors, sand off the rust on both the rotor and hub, then apply some anti-seize compound to both surfaces.
