Hey Guys, I was wondering if there are any Brake pros out there ( I'm sure there are).

I have a mid 90's GM product (mistake number one). It is a heavy a$$ 96 Pontiac grand am (Mistake Number two). Lastly, I left the stock Brake Rotors and Pads on it since I bought it(amazingly, mistake number 3.)

Now what peeves me is that usually when a car is made, you want to try to make everything work WITH the car.1. I am a light driver.( My speed car is of course the 240) 2. My transmission does all the braking,my brakes are only for emergencies in my mind. YET, my rotors are warped, when I barely use them. I heard this to be quite a popular bonus to many American mid 90's cars (mostly GM).

Now, I need new rotors for the front. Brembos seem to be high on my list, but I don't want crossdrilled or slotted rotors (if I said that correct). I have heard many wonders about 'Brembo Flats?' or Brembos rotors that look kind of like stock rotors, but are better made?

I don't know exactly what I am talking about, but I do know that I hate wobbly steering under brake power, and that is why i am here:D Please help. ( my limit for 2 rotors is 150$, if It gets that high)

Thank you for all the support and help.

isn't that your beater car? don't waste $ on it; just goto local parts store n get the standard aftermarket vented rotors or resurface the old ones <well less metal afterwards=> less heat sink/more prone to brake fade/ warpin, but that's y they have minimun thickness limits> & make sure the lugs are torqued to specs to reduce the warpage next time <ya, there's other factors to warp 'em>

or, u have $ to burn to that limit? i guess brembos do have a better metal alloy mixture in 'em <shrugs> up to u.

I remember changing out rotors for my sis' 97 cavalier & they're soo much cheaper than import prices <abc discount parts had em for less than $20 each> along w/ lifetime warranty pads from autozone... of course, she drove the thing until metal-to-metal contact.

to add, don't use the transmission to slow the car down; would u rather work on the transmission rebuild than on a brake system?

is that car automatic/manual?

on my 5 speed, i'd rather shift to neutral & use my brakes to slow the car down than wear out my clutch disc, just because brakes r soo easier on my back:ylsuper

I wish it was my beater. :( Naw, I need a NO WARP type of rotor, that isn't stock, cuz these were brand new, and yet they warped, I did usual maintenance checkup right when i got the car, Brand new rotors and Brake pads, as well as axles. I torqued em back to where they had been ( my father's doing) and have driven them lightly since then. (I had the 240's rotors illegally laithed :D To thin.....I know, I know : ( )

I have a 5-speed by the way.

One thing that I do, though I don't think it does much harm, is that when I shift down to slow up, I'll use my brakes in quick spurts to slow it to a reasonable speed, so as NOT to overkill the transmission by shifting at too high RPM's going down.

Anyone have input on the Brembo 'Flats' or whatever?

Thx.

hehe, there's no way a manufacturer will guarantee a NO WARP rotor; if they do, i'm buyin em rite now!

usually the aftermarket rotors that i had carried a 12 month warranty agains defects;so if i had problems w/ em, i'd go get me some replacements under warranty.

good luck w/ the brembos
