Just a quick question before I put any money down. I have 240sx to 300zx SS brake lines and a nice 30mm rotor drilled for 4 lug. Now I want to buy some calipers. I've been searching around for different calipers and found lots of different versions of the 30mm caliper.

Can a 30mm caliper designed for a 296X30 rotor work on the 280X30 rotor I already have? I assume, yes.

What kind of car did this caliper come from?

I think 296x30 rotors come from a R32 GT-R. I also think that the iron calipers (Z and R32) are identical and the difference in diameter is accounted for in the position of the caliper mounting flange.

Ge tthe aluminum ones, they are lighter and i dont think they made them in 26mm. Should be for say a 95 300zx TT

The aluminum ones did come in 26mm but only for the 90 model year. The 26mm are mildly difficult to find but I see 30mm all the time. You shouldn't run into any issues with finding calipers.

A 296 caliper will be pushed out slightly. I would expect that some of the pad materiel will not ever contact the rotor. Get the caliper made for that rotor.

As far as aluminum 26 mm calipers, IIRC they were available on the 1990 NA Z32's/ The TT had 30mm aluminum rotors. I believe all 91 Z32's had the aluminum 30 mm and 92+ all had iron. It's been a while since I looked up this info so you might want to double check the info.

This is a track car so I'm not too fond of spacers. I think I'll just have to buy new rims.

I measured from the spoke it was hitting and the caliper: about 1/8th of an inch. (3mm)

Right now I'm using washers to space out the wheel until I can get my hands on some different wheels. I did this just so I could pull the car out of the garage and drive it the wheel shop down the block. Even though the washers work I would never drive this car like that!

I've read alot of different opinions about spacers, each with its own facts but I just dont feel comfortable with the spacer idea. If I did run spacers, I'm thinking 5mm.

Great, now I rounded off the bleeder screw. This is quickly becoming a fiasco!
