Blah blah blah REAL Rays this, fake Rotas that... :-P I'd never get Rotas anyway after almost flipping at a track b/c of a Rota wheel failure. BUT, if their current wheels continue to show signs of strength, have a low cost, keep the weight down, and look OK; then I don't see a problem with them. I'd just never own em. Ever.

in all honesty...i dont get what you guys are griping about...i know for a fact that half of the people in this topic have prolly never seen a real track day...and i know most of you honestly dont have 2 grand to spend on a set of work VS-XX or Advan SA3R Gen 3s...im not one for putting cheap parts on my car...but if a company comes along with a cheap deep dish wheel in 17x8 or 17x9 that looks good...u know what...id rather pay 130 bux for that rim and have it a little on the heavy side knowing that if i put my car into the dirt or hit something with the rim and break it...OH WELL...its a 130 dollar rim down the hole...guess what...ill just get another one on monday when the shops are open again

and i dont think any one of you whos bitching in this topic realizes something (that pertains to what ive said above)...IF YOU ORDER A SET OF WORKS, VOLKS, ADVANS, ETC ETC ETC, YER GONNA HAVE TO WAIT ALMOST 2-3 MONTHS TO GET YER WHEELS!!!!! guess why....hmmm...well when you order a rim thats not POPULAR IN OFFSET (ie: any rim listed on advans, works, or volks, website that isnt FWD offset) THEY HAVE TO MAKE YOUR SET OF WHEELS!!! they just dont keep 17x10 -5mm offset VS-XX wheels in stock...why not?? because people dont order them left and right...this is where a cheap rim company would come into play...take for instance motegi...their touge wheels are a cheap example of deeper offset wheels for RWD cars...mainly marketed to the drifting crowd (hence the name touge)...they keep these wheels in stock because its a common wheel now in their product line...so if some company like Roja began producing cheap deep dish wheels...well you wouldnt have to wait MONTHS to get yer 17x9 / 17x10 work VS-XX because theyre single peice wheels...theyre on common order now (mainly being sold thru ebay)...and it doesnt take the man hours that it takes Volk or Work

do you get where im going with this post??? basically all of you who are whining about cheap wheels being a bad thing dont seem to realize the time, money, and details of ordering REAL rims as opposed to cheap copys

i for one would MUCH rather have a nice set of work VS-XX for daily driving (a $2000 set of wheels...that doesnt include tires) and have 3-4 sets of cheap deep dish wheels for track use....if you actually run yer car in drift/autoX/road racing then you know what track use will do to rims...especially once you start getting into 17 inch and 18 inch wheels that dont have a lot of rubber on them

Honestly the worst i've heard about Rota's were the SubZero's and if you look at them, they look pretty spartan in the spoke support department. Not to mention a lot of the stories posted on message boards across the internet can mean many things. .. i.e. not running the correct tire pressure, curb damage that goes unnoticed that later leads to a wheel failure, etc. Very few rims can take a hit at a track, (esp more than once) or on the street with out something catastrophic happening. And if you were to spend $2k + on forged Ray's, BBS's etc they better bend instead of crack/fail because that would be a lot of money wasted if they didn't and they would lose racing support. That's where their reputation lies and for the common enthusiast who mods their daily driver that sees occasional auto-x, or amateur circuit use its silly to go and spend $3k on fancy racing shoes.

It's just like with coilovers, some people out there will go and spend top dollar on the top-of-the-line coilover units only to install them on a car that is only going to see 'occasional' track time (or none at all) so that when it comes time to replace parts due to wear and tear of driving on the street that's when they really show how impractical they are.

I've posted this story at least 10 times in the past but I guess it never sinks in. Our Rotas that failed were track only wheels seeing only their second event. They never saw any off road excursions, hit anything other than a pebble or chunk of tire, or had anything else happen to them. The spokes and hub of the pass side front wheel separated from the rest of wheel in the middle of a high speed left sweeper...luckily the car didn't flip! Anyhoo, further inspection revealed 2 of the remaining 3 wheels had stress fractures on the spokes. From here on out, the CP035's became the track wheels while the Rotas became the street wheels (since they will NEVER see 1/10th of the stress we put on them at a track). Anyone with 1/2 a brain could see the value of using the good wheels at the track and the **** wheels for the street. Now for most drifting or auto-x, Rota's would be fine but I would never, EVER trust them at the track again.

ROTAS are heavy, poor materials (hence heavy), knock-off, poor offset peices of crap.

Plain enough for everyone? They're a "poser" wheel in the most ernest sense of the word. Inexpensive things that try hard to look like something they will never be.

Save up, get real, light, benificial-to-the-car wheels and be happy!*shakes fist*

Real wheels are expensive and nissan owners are cheap...that's really the crux of the matter.

im far from cheap...ive invested well over 14 grand into both my sileightys...but beating the **** out of a $2000 set of work VS-XX as opposed to beating the **** out of a $400 set of knock offs is a nasty idea to me...sure theyre track tested and track prooven...etc etc...but i would get REALLY pissed if i fuked up a brand new set of Works
