i had rota grids 16x8 on my s13 a few years ago and had absolutely no problems even after hitting various potholes around socal. it was my daily driver so i felt no need to spend 2 Gs on wheels for a car that would never see a racetrack.

i think it all depends on the casting of the wheel and how thick the spoke/face is. with that said, i believe its the design of a particular rim, not the entire rota lineup. and in this case, these spoon knock offs didnt hack it.

if your just gonna dd it, i think the p45r would be fine. but in the end, 'buyer beware' as always.

Sorry for the Necro-Post but I've read EVERY thread that mentioned these rims and was wondering if anyone has any first hand knowledge of them failing and or quality control issues.

I'd prefer LMGT4's but for a DD I'd rather put that money towards other performance upgrades.

I'll caveat this by saying I'm all about brand loyalty to a point - I own three Colts which cost way more than they should simply because they have a "pony" on the receiver and were made in Connecticut.

I know you are looking for first hand experience but....I have NEVER seen a wheel fail like the one in the pic, whether the guy hit a curb, telephone pole, or headon with an 18 wheeler. That failure is completely unacceptable. Cast FTL, forged FTW.

I will trade you 3 of my chinese Colt copies for yours.

T45 - Thanks for the reply, I was beginning to wonder if people were avoiding the issue. I'd much rather buy some decent looking rims (wheels) and save for a TT swap then burn off the funds on a set of Nismo's.

As far as the Colts go - believe me they are WAY overrated. My M4'gery cost double what it should have. Both my Combat Elite and Mustang Pocketlite have horrible tool marks on the inside of the slides. The only Colt that has ever impressed me is my issue M4A1 which is a tack-driver with a happy switch.

I hear you on the nismo's, the same reason I picked up my Z33 track wheels. They look awesome, super light and forged. Also priced nicely too, can be found for 7-800 a set.

A lot of nice looking but heavier rims are all over ebay and none of them have catastrophic failures like the one above. Mustang Cobra rims look sweeet on the Z32 also. My second, cheaper choice.

Wish I could talk about guns with you but i don't know the first thing about them. I've shot a few and own a 410 shotgun. Funny, went out with 3 buddies shooting one day, my first time at a range. 2 were deputies and the 3rd a construction worker, my first time ever shooting a handgun and I spanked them all. lol It was fun, I should pick one up but keep dumping money into the Zed instead.

What size and offset for a staggered look on my NA? I want the wheel sitting flush with fenders.

^^^Depends on what you're trying to achieve. Meaty & functional or stretched & stanced? Personally, I'd recommend:

18x9.5+30 concave fronts
18x10+20 deep dish rears

May need a fender roll &/or negative camber depending on tire choices.
