So I had this discussion weeks ago based on a college prank story of a dorm room being flooded, then set with Jello over a winter recess during which power was shut off and allowed to cool.
The questions we ultimately started discussing followed:
Imagine a room entirely filled with Jello- floor to ceiling, wall to wall, with a single doorway and no windows (perhaps a cube roughly dorm room size). If you were to dive headfirst through the doorway into the jello, how far would you get? Would you displace enough jello to complete submerge? Once inside, would you be completely suspended or would your weight overcome Jello's structural capacity and begin sinking? Would you be displace enough jello and create a hole big enough to allow oxygen to continue to your head, thus allowing you to breathe (and thusly eat your way tothe other side- maybe a 2nd door)? Would you be able to move about (swim as it were)? Would clothing be a hinderance or an advantage?
I'm bored at my office and have begun pondering these questions again. We thought about sending the question into Mythbusters just to see how much it would cost to fill a room with Jello. Now I'm wondering if I could design a small scale experiment using a 4x4x4 box filled with Jello and seeing how far something can be dropped into it.
So what does NICO have to say about it? Flavor recommendations?
