While there's a couple threads floating about about sunroofs. I have this rust on the passenger side on the lip of the opening and a little under it too. I have a coupe with the motorized sunroof, and i really don't want to remove every freaking thing to get at it, but it looks like I will.

Your going to have to remove the sunroof, how else would you ever get to that rust? Kick it in the *** now or you'll pay for it later.

will have to wait for better weather of course but damn...Grinding, sanding, puttying, sanding, priming, sanding, painting, wet sanding, clear coating, all pretty much upside down.

That's not going to be any fun! But I'm in for a worse time. daughter's 240(we've got two) has about a six inch section on the hatch support bar on the drivers side that is rusted through plus two quarter sized sections on top and right near the hatch hinge. I'm pricing a section from a junkyard car I found today. One of her friends teaches welding at a community college and has promised to weld it for her. We're going to have to remove the quarter glass for sure. That really scares me. I see busted glass in salvage yards all the time where people have shattered them trying to remove them.

That is an annoying place to have to get rid of rust. Wouldn't media blasting be easier and better at getting under that lip a bit?

I have the same issue but worse. I have rust all over the sunroof area. So i went the cheap as* way and found some Black duck tape and cover the little holes that i cant cover up during the winter. I'm going to get a new skin and replace the roofs outer skin. I have been battling rust up there for six years now and just cant get rid of it.

the rust is deeper than it looks, thankfully it doesn't go any further back. and how would i get all the media back out?I figured I will remove the entire interior in the spring including carpet and just leave a seat and the dash. it will keep that stuff clean while i remove that tar crap, and fix the sunroof rust and lay the inside with fatmat or dynamat. After all that put the interior back in. but somewhere in there before the sound deadener I will contemplate very hard as to putting in a roll cage and 4 point harness, but that a big MAYBE.

Anyone got pics of the headliner removed, preferably with a car that has the motorized sunnroof?

I have alot of Media blasting experience with media of all kinds, and I will say that media blasting is by far your best way to get rid of that rust. If your whole interior is already out you can just blow the media out with a blow nozzle, its not going to take much media to get that little bit of rust.

Secondly, So you want a roll cage? Does your car have enough power to warrant a roll cage? Do you track your car often and at tracks that require your car to be caged? If your answer is no to both of those questions, spare yourself from spending money on something useless, and looking like an assclown.

P.S. use dry ice on your sound deadening.

the interior is partially removed, and yeah I plan on putting it back in so you're right a roll cage is not a bright idea. Hey when spring time rolls around, wanna give me a hand with the media blasting? I'm still real iffy whether I want a straight up track car or a sleek cruiser that's got a little power. If I had two 240's I'd have both.

Do you have a blaster? I think you can just get a cheap gravity fed (paint gun style) one off harbor freight, all the ones ive ever used were expensive large industrial units that you wear a full suit to blast things larger than your car. Its quite easy, and impossible to mess up, it wont "eat" through your metal just remove the paint, just point and spray. Make sure you wear proper attire such as " long sleeves and pants, and a face shield of some sort, and i reccomend goggles underneath the face shield.
