Roof Rail Crossbars

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

thats not true. They are as silver as they can be. sounds like some kind of default color screw up in the database.

so for anyone in Canada who had their crossbars delivered with the vehicle, are they black?

I have a very hard time believing that. Nevermind the fact that will look like crap.

crossbars are accessories for canada and cannot be ordered through the the manufacturer as an option, just by the stealership!

As it happens I was just at the dealer 30mins ago & asked about the crossbars too (I'm another one in Canadashire) ... they are available in any colour as long as it is black However Thule do make an alternative set of bars (not quite as aerodynamic) which will fit the EX35 (this according to the Infiniti dealer) and they may well be available in silver although I don't know that for sure. I would go for black versus the extra wind noise & gas guzzle. Personally I'm fine with the look of it ... but being Scottish I probably have limited taste

Hey guys ... don't forget that you'll likely get charged border taxes & fees as well.

Mind you, it might still be worth it because that's exactly where I bought my cargo mat & organizer.

Have a boo at these links:Thread discussing cargo mat & organizer purchased from infiniti-parts.comThread discussing cargo mat

Note: The rails are only 19" apart and fixed position. Fine for a ski rack but no good for a cargo carrier.

are you sure about that? Weathertech says the Rackshack they sell will work.

Can someone post some photos of installed cross-bars - either factory or Thule?

Cheers

I think TrevEB is saying that if you use the factory crossbars, these are mounted only 19" apart (due to only one set of mounting holes in the rails), and therefore, that restricts the length of cargo carrier/box that can be used ... due to the limited overhang (front and back, past the supported 19") to maintain stability, especially if the cargo has any weight at all.

It appears the Weathertech "Racksack" footprint is small enough that it won't be a problem. This wouldn't be my choice though, because it's not too streamlined (i.e. possibly noisy and hard on gas mileage) and I would be aiming for a larger capacity.

I'm considering installing a hitch to allow a hitch-mounted cargo box which would ease loading/unloading as well as being usable for my hitch-mounted bike rack that I already have.

Does anyone have favourite sources for hitch-mounted cargo boxes (esp in Canada)?

Cheers,David
