Roof rack without roof rails

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hello

I am new to the forum and seriously considering purchasing the EX35 Base AWD model.

Looks like I cannot get the roof rails unless I move up to the Journey model. With the non-roof rail base model
would I be able to use a rack like this?

I am a bit worried that both Thule and Yakima do not have roof rack system for the EX without roof rails.

Thanks.

I asked the same question about a month ago and didn't get an answer. Maybe a new thread will do the trick. You could probably put a rhinorack on just about anything. I'm thinking it might destroy the rubber seals on the door and body openings, though. Maybe Steve the Tech has seen this and can chime in?

Yeah.. I believe I've seen your post while searching.

Would there be a compelling reason to spend extra 3K to get the Journey model?

I go skiing a lot during winter, so I really need the roof rack. Especially, the EX does not have much of space compared to other SUVs.

It depends on how much you want the extra space. I don't know what other options are included with the Journey package (basically too lazy to look it up), but if it includes things like a sun roof and some other creature comforts, then it would be worth it, IMHO. When I was shopping, a roof rack (hence the need for roof rails) was essential. It all depends on how much value you place on the ability to be able to add extra space with things like a Thule roof box. I got the dealership to throw in the cross bars, as I mentioned a lack of space was a concern with the car, but a roof box would solve that option!

Cheers.
