I have a 2012 QX56 and am looking at getting a rooftop rack to put a rooftop tent on. The OEM rack and bars are not anywhere close to sufficient. I have done some googling and can't find anything off-the-shelf in North America.

Has anyone done anything like this before? Any suggestions?

Don't the rooftop tent makers have a recommended rack maker/ partner? I saw Tepui has recommendations like that for some of their partners. It makes sense to me to have compatible rack partners if I were a rooftop tent maker. Here's a link to what I found:

this may not be the right place but are you interested in selling the OEM cross bars on the car now. I have been dying to get a pair but do not want to pay for a new one. Thanks

A couple of months ago I checked with Tepui and their partners don't have one. They referred me to Rack n Road but all of their stores are out west. I contacted them and they said I have to bring the vehicle in.

I am looking at local custom fabrication options.

I don't think I will sell OEM cross bars unless the price is right.
