I have the 2002 Pathfinder Chilkoot edition. It has the roof rails and rack. I believe I read that it has a limit of 80 lbs. Is this true? That seems pretty embarrassingly low.

I have access to yakima crossbars that mount to rails. Those crossbars are rated to 125. My question is the 80 lb limit in the rail or the crossbar. Would I still be limited to 80? If I have all 4 crossbars (the yakima and factory), would that give me a higher limit?

Thanks.

Owner's manual states 100 lbs maximum on the roof.

Having had many SUV's I know the recommended max was 100 lbs on the roof rack. I've loaded many sheets of drywall on the roof of my vehicle and no bad consequences. When I was on the fire department our hoses were rated for a certain amount but were actually good foe TWICE that. With liability issues the way they are mfg tend to lend on caution cause sure as not someone will max it out. I personally wouldn't sweat an extra 25+ pounds but use logic!

Manual doesn't say the reason of the 100 Ib limit. I think it is either for avoid structural damage or avoid too high of the center of gravity.
