Well as much as I hate the idea, I may need to put a roof rack on my baby for a surfing trip or two this summer (or the occasional kayak use) - anyone ever found a good product that won't damage the paint and can be removed/re-installed easily?

Looking for the thread now......

We have discussed this before, there is a suction-cup based roof rack for skis and stuff. It would work for the surfboard, probably not so well for the kayak though.

Cant find thread......

Here is my ebay search. It may give you some ideas, and it says that some of them are safe for kayaks.

Hope that helps

cool - I didn't even think of a suction cup solution! I kept thinking of all those old-style clamp on ones..

Thanks

Don't go the suction way-- makes rings on your roof and is not safe at all.

My girlfriend and I kayak and she has a roof rack that is basically foam with a strap that the door closes over and snaps together inside the car. Really safe, strap it down tight and it won't go anywhere and is probably much cheaper too.

But honestly, I only use it on her car since she doesn't have an AC
