Here are two people, one from each side of the aisle, setting an example that everyone in Congress should follow.

The man walks the talk. I just wish he had a more dynamic personality because he is too understated to to get the attention of our glazed-over electorate.

Although I praise them for this gesture, it's absolutely ridiculous that every person in Congress gets over a million dollars a year in taxpayers' money for office expenses. Between office staff, postage and paper they could cut that in half and save $250 million right there.

Ron Paul is someone I would seriously consider giving my vote to for the presidential election.

Ron Paul is too rigid for my tastes, and I mean that in the policy sense, not that talking to him is like talking to a corpse.

I can appreciate his ideological fidelity, but I rather prefer him as the guy who knows he's not going to have to work with anybody because he'll never be elected, and so is free to be completely free in saying things that are consistent with his ideology.

He's a great Senator, but I think he'd make a lousy President.

I said consider! It's always the lesser or two evils but I like him more than a lot of others.

Not sure of his position regarding the civil rights act, or really how anyone could be against it, and Roe-V-Wade doesnt matter a hill of beans whether your for or against it, its a dead issue, but I'm totally with getting rid of the DoE. Its done ABSOLUTELY nothing to improve education. Its just another entity to sit and say "hey throw more money at it", and that just doesnt work.

Easy to be against the Civil Rights Act - oppose an expansive view of Congress' Commerce Clause, which, I believe, both of the Pauls do. Don't know if they're explicitly against the Act, but they've got the prerequisite view of the Interstate Commerce Clause.

So is it just an argument that they went about civil rights wrong? Surely they wouldnt be against the notion of civil rights, just being particular about the legislation?

No, it's an argument that the Federal Government doesn't have the authority to regulate civil rights at all, at least not when it comes to private parties.
