Check out the rules for SCCA and MSCC. Most cage specifications are based on the final weight of the car. They also let you know what wall thickness you need for which type of tubing, and base plate dimensions. If you can make it yourself ... PLEASE PLEASE tell me you are a certified welder... Tubing is not easy to weld well, and if you are using chromoly, it will need to be normalized (or annealed i think is the right term) and we don't need another "I crashed my 240" thread. Roll cages are part of your safety equipment, just like your seat, helmet and harness mounts. I don't want to sound like a pessimist here... but I've had to see more than my fair share of wrecked cars and pulled parts of people out.
