It may be lighter, but the stronger part is up to debate depending on wall thicknesses, fatigue resistance, etc. I believe for chromoly to be as strong/stronger than DOM, it must be in a wider diameter/thicker wall, which leads to clearance issues, (i.e. nasa pro-racing minimums for my vehicle is 1.75" DOM or 2" CM) etc. I'll let the experts over @ the fabrication forums handle that:
