What are you thought and experiences with modifying bolt together cages?

I have looked at a number of the Cusco and equiv cages, but none have the exact links that I am looking for. My thoughts are getting a 6 point Cusco cage, adding a rear cross link, harness bar, and brace bars along the doors. Making it my own Custom 10 or 11pt cage

Custom cages cost so much, because of all of the initial measurements, estimates for what I want range 2000-3000 bucks, But with a proven to fit cage that can be modified would run me under 1500.

In my s14 I had a safety21 6 point and I added in the optional bars for the doors. It was awesome and worked fine.

For my s13, I got the safety21 7 point and I will be addingdoor bars again. I just haven't got around to it yet.

You can take out the door bars whenver you want if they bother you. I planned to take them out when I drove the car for streets and put them in only at the track, but after the first time I bolted them in, I never took them out.

They also have the "clamp in" style bars, but I don't think I'll get those.

Nice sounds like its the route I am going to take.

I used paint to make this, this is what I want.

Blue is how the cage comes.Black is the door bars I want to add.Red is a harness barMaroon is added support.

And then add a C-pillar bar, and 3 point Cusco rear strut bar.

Yeah the Second link is for the 'clamp in" style bars. They have them in aluminum or steel and they are adjustable I'm pretty sure.

The first link is to the joints or "tabs" as I call them. You just weld those in if you have your own piping I guess.. They also sell piping with those joints too. Thats what I did for my 14 cage. We cut them to size, put a little bend in them and boom. door bars and full interior.
