Has anyone had an issue with a whistle noise from a Nissan dealer installed bug deflector. I have a 2011 Rogue S model what is two days old. I had them put the Nissan bug deflector on and as soon as I drove off the lot on Saturday it had a whistle that started at about 70 km\h and gets louder the faster you go.

Today was at dealer and they took it off and the whistle is gone. Put the deflector back on and it's back. They said all they can do is remove it and refund my money.

I did some testing with duct tape and if I cover the gap under the bug deflector from edge of headlights toward the centre stopping at the centre grill area the whistle goes away. My father has a 2009 Rogue with same deflector and it has no noise.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to approach the dealer about this? Should I try a new deflector?

Thanks,

Patrick

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I have a Nissan OEM bug deflector that I installed myself and it makes no sound whatsoever. All I can speculate is that the deflector was installed incorrectly...

My OEM doesn't make any noise but they put screws through it to hold it on with no caps so I have 3 rusting screws on the front of my deflector!!!

I had the same problem and I tried everything under the sun. I eventually removed it and had the 3m tape put on the front.
This started happening after about 2 years. I am guessing that yours has a warp of some sort allowing the wind to get in.

Did they drill three holes on your hood???? Because they normally come with three screws, I mean they SHOULD put screws (one at the center, two on sides) to attach it. Did you mean the three 3M plastic dome formed pieces when you say "caps"?? How can they install it without these plastic pieces. These screws look like they have a special coating, they should be rusted

I installed mine and started to hear whistle noise, because I basically add a piece that is not aerodynamically tested in a wind tunnel. It is made by a Canadian company and I am pretty sure Nissan Japan didn't test it....but it is "OEM".

Anyway, for cleaning I removed it and install it back..now the noise is gone. I think you should download the installation instructions and attach by yourself. NEVER trust the guys at the dealer. Although they are authorized and they wear fancy work coats with a Nissan logo, I am sure they didn't measure the distance, find the center point, and attach it properly. I am an architect (I can install this type of accessory in 10 minutes normally) and I spent 45 minutes to attach it properly. At the dealer they won't spend that much time.

Let me give you an example for a reason why you shouldn't %100 trust mechanics at the dealer: After finishing the first three months (my cars trimester :chuckle: ) I went to the dealer for oil change. A part of this service is to check the tire pressures. I already checked the pressures and knew the exact pressure values. I didn't say anything about the PSI values, or the need to inflate three of them. When they returned the key, I asked if they check and inflate the tires? They said yes, of course in a confident manner. I took the keys, went to my car, check with my digital gauge and they are same. THEY SHOULD BE 38 PSI and they were all 36+-1 PSI. I returend back to the front desk and said you should inflate them. The chief mechanic said "For Rogues, the tire pressure should be 36 PSI"....anyway...after talking for about 10 minutes and showing the owners manual etc. they finally agreed to inflate them to 38 PSI.

What I am trying to say is don't trust them %100...

Remove it an reinstall yourself by looking at the instructions here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/60569238@N03/5524630327/

Thanks very much for the tips. The installation instructions are hopefully going to help. I checked my bug deflector and the rubber things stuck to the hood are not placed in the spots detailed in the instructions. 130mm (mine are 160mm). 440mm apart, mine are 350mm.

The deal is going to redo the installation on Thursday. You'd think they would have followed the instructions to begin with. When I asked they really had no answer.

Hopefully, that will solve the problem. If not, they are going to install a new deflector to try.

Thanks,

Patrick

Hey! New to the forum here. :)

And, I have my first issue: We bought our Rogue about a little more than a month ago (2011 Black Amethyst SL AWD) and it has less than 1K miles. On the highway, starting at 60mph, there is an annoying wind whistling noise present, as if there is a wind leak. I am not sure as to where it's coming from, but I think it's either from the front window(s) or the sunroof area. It minimizes a bit when I close the interior sunroof cover.

It's really annoying to me since I don't ALWAYS drive with the music on (great Bose system, btw), and sometimes I like to just have a quiet ride on the highway and this noise definitely impedes that. Plus, it's disappointing because the car is great and, otherwise, has such a quiet (except in the rain) and nice interior. Doesn't really give you the quality feeling when you're driving a $28K brand new car and have wind leaking somewhere, whistling annoyingly at you when driving at normal highway speeds. BTW, the faster you drive, the more noticeable it gets.

Does anyone else have this issue? If so, what have you done to take care of it, and will the Nissan dealer fix it?

Thanks!
