Has anyone has this problem? I tried the search feature to see if there were any posts on this subject, but it seems to not like me and won't work.

Once in a while, usually when I accelerate from idling, the car will slip into 1st gear without the paddle shifters or the gear shift being touched. I slide the gear shift over to the manuel side, and then back to the auto side quickly, and the car goes back into automatic, but it is rather unsettling to hear the car start revving all of a sudden. It did happen once or twice while I was already in gear, but again only while accelerating, so I noticed it very quickly because of the RPMs shooting up.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Zeecon,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I don't recall anyone on this forum reporting a problem like this before.

Is there a lot of play in your shifter when you move it from auto to manual? It should be nice and tight, and take solid force to slide it from one to the other, if it feels loose perhaps that is the source of the problem - the shifter definately should not be doing any moving on it's own. Other than that I can't say why your transmission would randomly gear down, but my advice is to try to systematically document the circumstances of when it happens, and record how often so that you can be as informative as possible when you bring it to the dealer for diagnosis. If it is a truly intermittent problem is not predicable the service guys can sometimes have a tough time finding the problem, so any help you can give them is in everybody's best interest.

Please report back after you have it looked at by the Service guys and let us know the outcome. Also there may be a Rogue onwer no here who has experienced the problem and can shed some light on to possible causes and solutions.

Is there a possibility you may be accidentally nudging the shift paddle in error? Even in automatic mode, tapping the downshift paddle will temporarily engage manumatic mode.
