Hi all,
I've been looking at getting a new commuting vehicle as I'm probably going to end up with a 60 mile a day commute soon. I'd rather not put all those miles on my 9-3 so I've been looking at an Impreza and the Rogue Select (odd cross shop, I know). I've always loved the Rogue, and I have a soft spot for it, along with odd renamings of vehicles for the previous gen car. I didn't think much of reliability past what in my area (NE Ohio) is typical Nissan rusting since we use so much salt, as I dug deeper I found the threads on CVT reliability around here and read through every one I could find. I'm left with a few questions that I'm hoping can be answered, especially by owners of higher mileage Rogues. Has the CVT in the Rogue undergone any upgrades/changes in design or construction over it's life? Or is the CVT in the RS the same as the first 08 Rogues? Can a transmission cooler be added? I've seen talk in the forums suggesting that those with overheating problems should add one, but then other posts saying there is no way to add the cooler to Rouges that didn't come equipped from the factory with one. To Rogue owners that read this, how many miles have you put on your car, how often was the CVT fluid changed, and has your CVT been replaced? Also to those in the "rust belt" how are your vehicles holding up? Base line I love the Rogue Select and would love to own one, but being close to "broke college student" level I won't be able to afford repairs if the CVT fails outside the 5/60 powertrain warranty. Basically, is this a car I can keep 10 years, 100K+ without issue? Some additional background, I'm the son of a mechanic, so all maintenance will be done religiously, with full synthetic oil changes every 3K and the CVT flush at every 30K.
