Hey guys. Just a heads up, I know almost nothing about cars. Or how they work. For all I know, its black magic. If I need to get something fixed, I'll probably ask a friend or bring it to a shop.

Anyway, I have a 2011 Nissan Rogue that hasn't been driven for almost two years. The battery has been dead for quite a long time. I live in Minnesota, so from what I've read chances are there is no way I am going to be able to salvage that battery.

So I'm wondering, what kind of battery does the Nissan Rogue use? What do you recommend I buy? What's the estimated cost of buying a new battery? Is there a way to recharge that dead battery?
I live in the South Metro area of Minnesota, if that helps (i.e. recommend auto part shops).

I'll update with anything if you guys need me to.

Thanks!

every car has its own specific size & power type that it uses. the best bet you can make is to call around to local auto parts stores and ask for a price on your specific make/model/year and then pick the best price. your looking at around $100 give or take $25. if your battery/car has not had any juice in that long of a time- odds are you might have other issues with the car aside from a dead battery. some systems might need a "relearn" in order to work. furthermore, if the car was never even turned on - rubber seals & gaskets in very small and tiny places you cant see have already developed something called "dry-rot". cars have to be started at least, at the very minimum ONCE PER MONTH and ran till warmed, and then ridden for at least 20mins. id suggest you do the following:
  • 1. check tires for tiny cracks & dry rot, and tire pressure.
    2. listen for any squeaks in the fan belt- as that too can snap from sitting for so long.
    3. get an oil change INSTANTLY - as oil is very hygroscopic and collects moisture from the atmosphere. furthermore, engine parts internally have grown small rust and or scales and will now wear off = clogging your oil filter instantly.
    4. check your tires for flat spots that will cause a vibration when driving and replace them.
    5. after getting your new oil change, i suggest you watch for oily stains under the car, after leaving a parking spot or your driveway.
    6. bleed your brakes. that fluid absorbs moisture like crazy and when you use your brakes, that moisture will turn to steam and cause your brakes to fail. dry rotted rubber seals in the calipers will leak your fluid, and cause air bubbles - so check your brakes and drain the fluid please!
this is what happens to rubber if not lubed properly = dry rot:

we have rubber seals in everything. from brake calipers, engine seals, transmission seals, cooling systems, caps, doors, lights, etc, etc.
