I am buying my first car and I decided to get a Rogue AWL. Now I am deciding between S and SL (automatic vs triptronic transmission). I know that the TRP has a 10 year warranty, but a friend mechanic told me that repairs are complex and very expensive. Thus I am leaning towards the automatic. I just want something simple that works well and I do not care about the thrill of controlling the transmission myself (I am a girl :). Let me know what you think. Am I making the right choice for the right reasons ?

Thanks a lot,
Cdj

Welcome to the NICOClub Rogue Forums Cdj!

All Rogue models actually have the same CVT automatic transmission.

The difference you are referring to is the manual/paddle shifter available on some 2008-2009 SL models. All this does is select a fixed gear ratio through software... to mimic a 'Tiptronic' or manually shifted automatic transmission. This does not affect the reliability, if anything the manual shifted models are desirable as they also include a transmission oil cooler which can be beneficial if you drive in a hot climate or tow a trailer.

Good luck on your purchase!

Not sure what gender has to do with it. My wife is a girl (obviously) and loves the paddle shifters on her Rogue. There are plenty of guys who don't like dealing with gear selection.

So if I understand correctly, both S and SL models have a CVT transmission. There is no such a thing as an automatic Rogue without a CVT. I got confused because dealerships indicate online that some models have an automatic transmission and others have a triptronic transmisssion.

Correct

I know it's confusing.

Regardless what you choose, the transmission is functionally the same.

BTW, the 10yr warranty applies to 2003-2010 Nissans with CVT's only:

Whichever you decide to buy, please drive the car at low speeds between 25/40 mph and feel/listen for any vibration/sound that seems unusual or that you would not like to drive with for the next 100,000 miles or so.
