Just bought a 2009 Rogue and driving back from Nashville TN to Huntsville AL, I noticed when the shifter is in L position, or the "OD OFF" button is engaged, the SUV stayed in first gear. No shifting at all.
The SUV ran perfectly in Drive as long as OD OFF is not engaged. It must have OD on. Anyone have ideas on this one ?

Car is a 2009 Rogue SL (no paddles).
Mileage is 39,800

There are no gears, it's a cvt transmission. OD off disengages the torque converter lockup. L stands for Low Range, only to be used for low speeds. OD off should never be used on the interstate either. It's operating like it should be.

Just an fyi take at look at Section 5 of the manual, it talks about O/D

Thanks for the replies. Its my first CVT and I am reading more. I have a '95 Maxima and thought the O/D would operate similarly. I bought this Rogue for my daughter to drive to college. My concern is if she is driving 75mph down the Interstate pumping her tunes and accidentally tapped the "O/D off" button on the shifter, I'd bet the Rogue would lock up the tires, bouncing the front bumper off the pavement as it rev'd to 11k RPMs, and probably blow the motor.

I hit 4k RPMs at 42mph with "O/D OFF". Cant imagine and never want to see what happens at 75mph. Im sure NIssan thought of all this so Im confused as to why designed a possibility to put the trans in "O/D off" while at hight speeds over 65mph.

I will keep reading as much as I can. thanks again.

I would assume that you might turn the O/D off if you are climbing a large hill, which you might be doing at those sort of highway speeds.

I also would not worry what happens if you take the car out of O/D mode. The car is designed to handle this and the computer will deal with it properly.
