Yesterday my wife and I were headed to a concert in a town about 200 miles away from home. We got off the freeway and were sitting at the red light on the off ramp. The Rogue was slammed in the back by a Ford F150 4WD. We were 150 miles from home and wrecked. We pulled some wreckage away from the tires and used zip ties to hold the back end of the Rogue on. After visiting with the nice State Police officer, who by the way issued several citations to the Ford guy, we decided to bag the concert, and drove 150 miles back home. The big mean Ford F150 4WD had to be towed away. This is the 2nd time I have been rear ended in this car. I am beginning to think it is cursed, but thank God it is tough.

About a week ago my wife and I were taking granddaughter out to dinner for her 9th bday, in my 2008 SL AWD. Driving on our outerbelt (I270) at 6:30PM and saw a car stopped in our lane. Too much traffic to change lanes so I braked and came to a stop behind the other car, which was stopped because of an accident in front of her. As I stopped I checked the rearview mirror and saw a big black SUV coming straight at us at high speed. He hit us so hard that we were pushed into the car in front and crushed the back of it like an accordian. Same description for both the front and back of my Nissan Rogue. By some kind of good fortune none of us sustained injuries more serious than bruises. The woman in the car in front of me suffered a broken wrist and the collision pushed me out of the way so the SUV could drive on (hit and run). Fortunately there was a witness in one of the other stopped cars who saw that I had stopped and was then rear ended and pushed into the car ahead. The SUV that hit me was found a short while later abandoned several miles down the road and later that week the unlicensed, unauthorized driver was arrested. It has occurred to me that had the SUV not hit and continued on we would have absorbed a lot more impact energy and this story might have had a much different ending.

The Rogue saved us from injury because both the front and rear sections crushed in the way they were designed to. It is indeed a very tough, well designed trucklet. My insurance company has totaled my 2008 and I am looking at the 2011 SL AWD as a replacement. I guess the Nav system, rearview camera, climate control, and auto headlights make up for the loss of homelink, compass, and simulated stick shift. Anyways I salvaged the homelink mirror from the '08 and will get it installed in the '11.
