Rogue high pitched sound when OFF

All,

This just happened.
I turned off my 08 Rogue and immediately heard a somewhat faint (but noticeable) constant high pitch sound. I am a private garage so its obvious.

Now the car is OFF for sure. Its been off for 3h now. (the sound has been there the whole time) I can hear the sound and it comes from the engine bay. I popped the hood and its somewhere in the front part but I cant pinpoint it.

So I disconnected the battery ; sound goes away immediately. Re-connect it, it comes back.

I also took it for a quick spin, came back but as soon as I turn it off, sound is back. Its in the garage now with battery disconnected.

Any ideas?

In a Subaru forum someone seems to have a very similar issue. Any thoughts?

sounds like horn or chirp speaker for the alarm/door locks. hit the mechanic asap before it starts draining your battery.
