Is there a way to install the 'factory' GPS that I am seeing offered now?

I have a 2008, and would like a GPS unit - not sure if I should get the same one the Rogue is sometimes sold with, or if I'd be better off with a non-OEM unit?

Thanks,Shawn

The Rogue does not come with in-dash GPS navigation.

If you are referring to the unit Nissan is advertising, it's just a common off the shelf Garmin Nuvi 750. It's not a special unit, you can buy the same one at any retailer.

If you are looking for an in-dash solution, you can upgrade your factory stereo to something like the:

Pioneer Avic series:zerothread/332115

Alpine IVA-W205:zerothread/327856

Philipa,

I am looking for the one they are advertising - or at least a similar mount. Any idea what mount they use?

Thanks,Shawn

All Garmin Nuvi's come with a smooth self adhesive plastic disc that sticks to the dash and a suction cup mount. I believe this is what Nissan used in thier photos:

The Nuvi is not factory installed. It's just an accessory you can purchase from your dealer. IMHO, you can probably buy it much cheaper elsewhere.

The Nuvi 750 has a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery good for up to 5 hours. There is no special power hookup for the Rogue. This is why you don't see a power cord. You have to recharge the unit periodically using the supplied cord (not shown in Nissan's photos) and 12V lighter plug.

BTW, the plastic disc (dashboard mount) is supplied with all Nuvi's since some states (California) do not allow you to mount anything to the windshield.

Permanent mount GPS is undesireable now- My phone even has GPS and its mobile. Using the BLUETOOTH system with the phone GPS is way nicer.

Your better off with sinking your money into a better music system.

Technology changing too fast in this field- todays in-dash unit is obsolete as soon as its installed... and its a LOT of cash too!!

IMHO

Is it possible to use either the FM traffic or MSN Direct traffic receivers with the Nissan Garmin 750 GPS? Both of these have the traffic receivers integrated with a 12/24-Volt adapter which plugs into the cigarette lighter. The Nissan Garmin 750 GPS unit (factory installed) already has the power going into the vehicle's electrical system for power. I wish Nissan would have shipped the Rogue with the traffic receivers found on the Garmin 760 or 780 units.

To All:I have to disagree with all the above statements.

Since I have option code U94, Navigation System, Portable as a factory installed unit from Japan, the dash pad is made special just for the electrical mount for the 750 unit, which has a special hole cut into the dash pad and a special electrical submount molded into the location where the hole was cut into the dash pad. Now the electrical submount has 4 electrical connections that the 750 mounts to, this powers the unit via the car's electrical power. This special mount is removable and a small circle shape plastic dust cover is installed over the electrical connections when not in use.

Now there is a rectangle shaped mount that comes with the 750 when the dealer installs the electrical mount into the dash pad. This mount is different than the factory installed round mount. The dealer will have to cut into the dash and install this rectangle mount. This rectangle mount just has two electrical wires, the positive and negative wires. Power is coming from an aux. port from the fuse box panel.

Now my factory installed 750 unit it gets it power from the main dash electrical wiring harness located underneath the dash.

Now the real question is the main underdash wiring harness, when the U94 option is selected and installed at the factory, Japan, Does it have a special underdash wiring harness for this unit or is it just a special electrical plug connection that is built into the wiring harness and every Rogue has this electrical plug connection?Your guess is good as mine..................

On what part you disagree with? That 750 is not an accessory but part of the car? It is probably connected the same way as i connected my valentine one radar I can show my pictures later. All I did cut the original wire with cigarette plug and connected 2 wires to the dome light. Now I don't see any wire coming from my radar and it looks like just as it came from the factory. Nothing special. Same story about this or any other gps on a dash.

Here is an example of a DEALER INSTALLED unit. Notice the rectangular shaped mount that has to be cut into the dash pad. Also notice the two electrical wires that power the unit.

Good Luck in getting the 750 unit. I love mine.............

An example of the many false statements:"The Nuvi is not factory installed."

U94 Option can be installed at the factory, Japan. Check your build sheet of the Rogue or at least the window sticker. The window sticker has your "mini build sheet" located in the lower right hand side of the window sticker. In it has all listed option codes right below the vin #. These option codes listed one after another is your build sheet, the options or items installed on the car.

BTW, I had mine '09 specially built just for me and listed all options that I wanted to have "factory installed" on the dealer prebuild sheet that they turn in so the car can be built via your selected build sheet.

A different build sheet is made and attached to the Rogue while it is built and while on the assembly line. I also have a copy of this factory build sheet.

I just purchased a 2008 Nissan Rogue which had the Nissan Portable Navigation System as a factory installed accessory. The GPS system is really a Garmin Nuvi 750, but the software has been modified for sale as a Nissan accessory. When the system is turned on, its says Nissan Portable Navigation. It also has an additional menu item to find the closest Nissan or Infiniti dealership. More info on the system can be found at: http://www.garmin.com/nissan

The GPS system is hardwired into the vehicle's power supply According to a Garmin representative, the optional traffic receiver accessory (FM or MSN Direct) can be used with the system, but you cannot mount it to the Nissan installed mounting unit because the traffic receiver has to have access to the mounting unit for power (which it does not on the Nissan factory installed mounting unit). The traffic receivers have an integrated 12 volt power cord that plugs into the cigarette lighter. The other end connects to a mounting unit. The Garmin rep. said that I would have to purchase another mounting unit (windshield or dashboard) to use with a traffic receiver and plug the power into the cigarette lighter. Therefore, the Nissan Portable Navigation system is not very useful if would like to use the traffic feature on the Garmin. It would be better to buy a Garmin 760 or 780 with the traffic capability and a dashboard mount.

I didn't really need or want the Portable Navigation system, but it was already added at the factory on the vehicle I wanted based on its features and color.

I don't see mount kit for Rogue. This is just a portable 750 with regular window kit.

I'd like to mount a TOMTOM in the location that the factory one mounts to. Where is a good location to draw the power from?

The so called 'Nissan GPS' is nice, but honestly it's still nothing more than a Garmin Nuvi with a fancy dash mount.

The fully integrated nav system is available on Rogue's twin brother, the Qashqai in the UK:

Man I almost want to cry. What an ugly box on the dash. Looks like a CRT, haven't they heard about LCD displays?

Yes, I agree it is a bit ungainly. If money was no object, I would do a carputer with a motorized LCD that folds or retracts into the dash.
