So friday night at work, a coworker decides to back into my Rogue in his crappy little 2003 Suzki Aero (whatever the heck its called). I thought he will correct his angle but he just didn't put the brakes on time, and I felt a shake in my Rogue. However, I had it in drive the entire time, and I was as front as I can get without interfering with traffic. The GM had to file the report with corporate, which apparently costs the store $1800 since it happened at work, and had a witness. I followed the GM's procedures, and proceeded to call the local police department (thank god it wasn't FHP), and they said to exchange insurance information regardless. Although we did that, the cops couldn't find a scratch or dent or anything on my Rogue, (drivers left rear door), so no report was written. I hadn't filed an insurance claim yet, since there was no scratches or anything, but my question is: Do I still have to file an insurance claim for this incident? And should I have a detailer buff out the area or go to a body shop?

Make the police write a report, so the other driver can't easily say you backed in to him.

So the cop saw nothing and you didn’t show him the damage your aledging?

So if you see nothing, what’s the problem.

I’m sure at the microscopic level there is some abrasion.

Anyways, you should have gotten a police report if there was damage to make you feel better.

I agree. Just have have it in writing even you dont see any visible damage. I had a similar incident with my previous car (2001 CRV) where a Civic rear-ended me in while going through an automated carwash. After waiting to get out of the carwash, I couldnt find any damage to car (miraculously), but the Civic behind me had a distinct tire-shaped dent on his hood. We still exchanged insurance and filed a report even though i didnt suffer any damage.

I wanted to have a police report written, but the coworker was already being a huge pain to me and then saying to everyone at work that there was no scratch on my car; he just probably doesn't understand my OCD levels, cause I take proper maintainence and proper care of all the cars we own (parents dont, hence dad's MDX is hella scratched up by bunch of (insert insulting name here). Plus an older Indian gentleman, who is a former mechanic and is a correct co-worker of mine, said not have police to come and NOT to have a police report written. So I was peer-pressured into not having a police report. Not sure if I should let my insurance know about this incident.

If there is damage you can still go to the police station and have them file a report. If you feel the cop is going to be a d!ck bring your parents along to help out.

It's kind of different here, since you would only need to file a police report in the case of an injury or hit-and-run. I say, at least have it filed to your insurance, so you won't get into a situation where the other party claims no-fault and you'd be on the hook for any claims.

You can still go to the police station and fill one out

If there is no mark or damage, forget it. Filing an insurance claim runs the risk of raising your premium. If this had happened in a Walmart parking lot while you were shopping you wouldn’t even know about it. I’ve found worse when I’ve come out of a store and had no idea how it happened.

If you drive your vehicle it will get scratched, dinged, the paint will fade the seats will get ripped, it’s just the cost of using it. Do your best to keep it nice but don’t stress a non-event.

There is no damage and I haven't filed a claim with my insurance at all. However, looks like yesterday, workers comp form came in the mail, which I am not going to file workers comp because I am not hurt at all.

Worker's comp is only for being injured at work, not in the parking lot unless in the performance of your job. Parking lot becomes private transaction even on other property if that property not damaged. The accident happened OFF THE CLOCK, worker's comp does not cover that. Unless you were going on a paid lunch break.

Indian gentleman is trying to help you, if the vehicle is fine do NOT file a report, if police or you do then it becomes insurance fodder and your rates will go up over it but likely not in the way you think. Insurance does not often increase a big increase all at once now, they increase little by little and if you show accident then that rate goes up. Don't tell the insurance company, they give you so many strikes before cancellation and 'fake' ones like this count in that. Save the mental stress for accidents requiring it.

Save insurance for when you NEED it, they will sometimes make you rue the day you called them over minor things like this. BTDT. Anything they don't need to know about makes your record look better and lowers your rates.

Police are not required to do a Police report for a very minor accident with apparently no damage. I know every state is different but in NY only over 1k in damage or Personal Injury require police report

It was during my shift, happened at 6:40pm, and my shift started at 5pm and ended at 10pm, which was before our dinner rush, thats when we get a trump (not political) load of orders to deliver. I haven't called my insurance or informed them at all since my premiums would raise either way because of a vandalism claim that I filed back in november and I had the insurance pay $1000 while I paid a mere $100 deductible.

I probably won't file an insurance claim just so my premium doesn't go up
