I imported my Rogue to Germany and the inspection office is telling me that I need to get yellow lenses for the blinkers. Does anyone have any suggestions for a source I can go to to acquire rear lenses with a yellow blinker??

The Rogue is specific to North America. Unfortunately there is no rear tail light/blinker available with a yellow lens. Not even from another Nissan.

The closest you can get is the Nissan Qashqai sold in Europe. The Rogue is actually based on the Qashqai, however they have different body parts and the tailight is shaped quite differently. It likely will not fit, see here:

Just a suggestion... I found this guy (in an Acura forum) who says he found a manufacturer in Europe that will make custom made tail light lenses (via injection molding). Sounds like they use a stock lens as a mold. They only make the lenses, not the housing. Unfortunately I read the entire thread and he never mentions the name of the company, but... the forum thread is current. Maybe if you send him and email he'll pass along the name of his contact. Good luck.

Really? Are you military? Because if you have it registered on-base with the "American" tags, it shouldn't be an issue. At least it wasn't when we were there with our Nissan Quest. Polizei never really gave us an issue either.Granted, that was all a few years ago...

thanks for the info everyone. I've contacted the Infiniti poster. Let's see what comes back. Whatever info I get I will post here for future usage. to answer the military questions, no I am not military (anymore) and there fore the SOFA (Status of Force Agreement) the US has with Germany sadly does not cover me.

Will it be enough if you put high power led yellow/amber color bulb under the red lenses? It is not going to be yellow but it's not going to be red either. Another option is bake a tail light and create a new cover from Plexiglas.

Welcome to an uniform world... or how to prevent people to import cars from other continents (being playing these silly games for many years).North America is not better, don't worry, they are as bad as Europeans.

As for your problem, check with the inspector if this is OK for you to have a red lens as long as the blinker is orange at the end.

If this is OK, your solution is to get a yellow light behind the lens to get it orange/amber at the end. I wrote yellow, not amber or orange, just pure yellow, otherwise it will be too close to red and they won't see the change. It needs to be powerful because a lot of light will be lost(filtered) in the lens. Your best solution is LEDs as you will be sure they have only the yellow wave and not another one. That is what I planned to do my own as I want amber blinkers on my car (European background taste here).

If this is not OK, then basically you are screwed as they are no European equivalent of this car as Philip showed you. Your best chance is if an aftermarket company decides to do a clear replica of our tail light, which is not the case as for now. You can also try the solution from Elton Noway but be careful as our tail lights are welded so you will have to dremel them opened as you cannot bake them up opened. It is not as easy as the headlights, you will have to do it slowly and carefully and find a way to close them up after (rubber butyl sealant with use of screws).

Good luck.

Hmm... well I guess I will have to ask what TÜV has to say.

contacted the dude you told me about and he said it would be $6,000 per lense so $12,000 total. Sounds like a racket to me.

$12000? For these money I'll make custom led tail lights in any color.

$6000 is quite excessive but the work is has to do is not that easy. If you wonder what it implies, google something like "clear reflector DIY".It is about the same thing but for the whole lens, not just a reflector. It is hard not to have bubbles in the lens so he may have to redo another one several times.

Still, it is close to outrageous at that price, but since he is the only one on the market and you are in demand,...

Look what TUV has to say about red lens with amber output, and report back. When do you have to leave? If you have some time left and TUV is OK with that, I can try to do both yellow->amber blinkers for you for about a tenth of what the guy is asking you... for one light. I was planning to use these yellow LEDs on mine, but if that can help a member, I will try to find others for me.

If TUV is not OK with it (make them write it down if that is OK), then you will have to left your car here and find another one over there. How long do you have to stay in Germany? what about your house here?

I will give a full debrief what the inspection says now I need a technical data sheet that talks about the details of the car, but it has to be in German and I have to have it before the inspection can happen. So I've been told of a few sources to go to get it, but we will see. From what I hear the TÜV office in Essen is charging 350€ and I have been told to try a local Auto importer for this technical data sheet. This however is not a sure thing I hope I can find a source where it is cheaper. Any ideas? The unfortunate thing is the car is already here in Germany. The research I did before sending my car here as part of my three expatriot period was obviously not complete and now I am paying for that. Once it is all said and done, I will post a picture of my rogue with German License plates.

Came across this video of some orange LEDs under the red lens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePIsNIShqlY (skip to about 1:05)
Obviously not a Rogue, but you can definitely see that they are really orange.
So it definitely is possible for them to be orange. Just hope it's acceptable for an amber turn signal under the red lens.
