Hi,I have a Rogue AWD 2008 with premium package and now i'm looking to buy a 18' boat which will be, with the trailer, a rough weight of 2500lbs.

What do you think of towing that with my Rogue.

I know that the towing capacity, rated by Nissan, is 1500lbs but I have also a Sentra 2005 1.8S and I tow with that car a trailer with wood which weight about 2000lbs and I have no problem.

Any comments will be appreciate.

You're talking about towing something that is going to be at least 1000 lbs too much for the rating of the vehicle. I would strongly advise against it and I'm sure 99% of the people here would do the same.

It's a mechanical issue and more importantly it's a safety issue for you, your family and the other cars on the road.

Think it through and good luck to you.

Yeah I'm with you, I'd really like to have more towing capacity for a seadoo, possibly a boat, but I think if you go over the rated 1500 lbs you'll be placing additional wear and tear on the vehicle, and 2500 is way over the limit so I would think it's possible to blow your transmission, but that's anybody's guess how much wear it would add. With the cost of a new CVT I wouldn't want to test it.

Also, you can be fined for being over weight and this is a serious safety issue for you and others on the road - check the FAQ section as there is a lot of discussion on this already and some solid facts from our moderator Philip.

The tow ratings are there for good reason. Read one of my latest posts regarding this:

There are no 'guidelines' that determine how the tow rating is calculated. It's different for every mfg. It's based on vehicle design, braking capacity, engine power, cooling capacity, etc. Exceeding them can result in loss of control, damage to the vehicle, and likely void your vehicle warranty. In some jurisdictions, if you exceed the GCWR (total weight of the vehicle, passengers, cargo, and trailer), you can be charged/fined.

I have driven my Rogue loaded to it's limit of 1000lbs. While it seems it could take more, I would never push it. If I need to tow heavy stuff, I borrow a friends truck instead.

Some may ask why Nissan imposes such a low tow limit? Most if not all Nissan passenger cars have a 1000 or 1500lb limit. Only the trucks/suv's go higher. Whether this is deliberate and if there is some 'safety margin' built in, we will never know.

I have added links to the towing guides in the FAQ. Here they are for reference:
