Hey guys I know there was a thread about this before but I can't find it....so I think my Air Conditioning is very weak and I'm wondering if that is just the way it is (product constraint, poor design), or do I actually have a problem? I drive a lot of different, newer vehicles at work for comparison and my Rogue's AC is significantly inferior to all of them, it just doesn't get real cold. I don't like to ask the Service Deptartment to investigate something unless I'm pretty sure it's a problem, so before I bug them I was wondering what others think about the Rogue A/C.

Is it below average, average, better than average? I'd say mine is far below average and perhaps it has a leak or some other problem. Your input is much appreciated!

I have no problem getting the A/C farily cold even in high humidity. It make take as much as 30min to completely cool the car on a hot day, but it does get there. I usually run it on 'MAX AC' with the fan at 3/4 speed. The lower fan speeds I use may help to run the evaporator (the coil inside the car) cooler for better dehumidification. That could be a difference.

If you want to check the A/C, all you need is a decent thermometer (inexpensive digital cooking thermometers work well). Here is the procedure from the Service Manual:

1) Ensure the following:- Park indoors or in the shade (in a well-ventilated place)- Doors Closed- Door windows Open- Hood Open- TEMP. set to maximum cold- Mode switch set to Ventilation/upper vents- Intake switch set to Recirculation- Fan blower at Maximum speed- Engine speed at Idle

2) Operate the air conditioning system for 10 minutes before taking measurements.

Relative Humidity: 50-60%Inlet air temp degC(degF) = Discharge air temp at center vent degC(degF)25 (77) = 8.8 - 11.2 (48 - 52)30 (86) = 12.9 - 15.9 (55 - 61)35 (95) = 17.0 - 20.4 (63 - 69)

Relative Humidity: 60-70%Inlet air temp degC(degF) = Discharge air temp at center vent degC(degF)25 (77) = 11.2 - 13.8 (52 - 57)30 (86) = 15.9 - 18.9 (61 - 66)35 (95) = 20.4 - 24.0 (69 - 75)

Philip, once again thanks so much. I'm a detail guy and I like to quantify things rather than guess or estimate. I wasn't aware of those specs and the procedure for checking myself, but I will definately do it and then know for sure if I have a problem or not. That is great info, thanks again.

The inlet air measurement is a bit tricky as it's located somewhere in the passenger side footwell area (beside the glovebox).

Generally for A/C to be effective, you need to get the discharge air temp below the dewpoint. This allows the A/C to condense the humidity/water vapor out of the air. The values in the table above are well below dewpoint and should give decent A/C performance.

Now compared to other cars, I would say the Rogue A/C is average. I have driven some domestic makes (Ford, GM) that have much more effective A/C systems. This may be becoming a thing of the past though as automakers focus on efficiency. A/C does gobble up a large amount of engine power.

Could a dirty cabin air filter be your culprit? My Rogue A/C is far superior to the one in my 05 Frontier.
