We're in the process of rebuilding (to stock specs) an engine for a friend of mine.Having a closer look at the rod/bearing it looks like the alingment of the oil lubrication holes isn't correct, they only match up halfway, which means the lubrication hole has actually only half the size it should have. Now i will enlarge(ovalize) the hole in the rod until it actually matches up with the hole in the bearing !?Is this the right way to do it, any advise?

No harm done as long as you don't mame the surface of the bearing.

Yeah, Brian at prolink wants $1800 complete! To me that's a tad bit expensive, but it has an upgraded ecu (Mines) and is complete (I think with the intercooler and piping).

any of you guys freshening your bottom end, using oem nissan bearings ?do you go thru matching the grade numbers ?or just get a std-grade 2, then plastiage ?anyone run standard size aftermarket rod bearings sucessfully, once your crankshaft checks out ok ? ....how many miles since ?

what about ground crankshafts ?boostboy, do you know of a "good" machine shop doing import motors, in the miami / fort lauderdale area ? Shop I used was later sold and operated by a bunch of monkeys, who are cluelessI had a toyota 4ag crank cut once, as an experiment.... I tried to blow that sucker up, but that little motor took all I could throw at it. I'd like to have that kinda toughness out of the ca18det

If you check uk forums, you'd find an alarming amount of CA18s with rod bearing problems. Problem is, with these nissan motors, you hammer on a worn one, it'll knock out the big ends in no time. Older SRs, same thing. 60-80 kilometers seem to be the "trouble zone".I believe this is an important, but often overlooked issue

First of all, though CA18's can rev, it's still a mechanical system that has fatigue points. When you rev an engine, you're squeezing the oil out of the bearings and journals. If you don't periodically renew the bearing after thrashing the engine for a said amount of miles or kilos, it's going to give way. As far as machine shops here in Miami, MESA balancing is very good. they just corrected a fatal goof-up that the previous machine shop did to my engine.

@boostboyThe engine Chezina is working on is mine...So if we alter the rods a bit to provide matching of the oil holes that would be OK?The bearings are a bit worn, too, so we want to replace them.Do you have a particular make that you can recommend and where to get them?

Stock nissan units, ACL or federal-mogul makes good bearings. And if they don't exactly line up, you can expand the hole. Don't alter ther rod to adjust to a copper bearing that can be worn. Mod the the bearing to match the rod.
