Just recieved my Pauter rods and ARP head and main studs (THANK YOU KA24DE.COM); need opinions and/or experiences with rod bearings ... Top Line, or Toga? Any others? Thanks!!

Good news ... got hold of a "donor" block so I can begin the bottom build ... Pauter billet rods, CP pistons 9:1, bore .020, balance rods, pistons, crank. Won't be long :) I've also got news on a MLS head gasket, but more on that during the week. I'll be posting pics along the way as well as info; dyno shots and numbers.

Nice. :)

As long as there is no oil starvation OEM bearings (top-line etc.) should be fine. Nismo makes some high performance ones i believe. BTW, what kind of wheels are those on your s14? Look sweet.

I will be running high boost (20+) and revs. I was thinking Toga bearings because of this. Any other opinions? Any other bearing manufacturers for the KA??

Thanks ... the wheels are OZ, but I don't know the name. I bought them off a friend, they're out of production and he doesn't remember the name either. They are true 3 piece, 17x8F/17x10R. Not a scratch on 'em and the tires (Yokohama Paradas) at the time only had 100 miles on them :) Not bad for $1500.

Cometic.... Ew. Get yerself a stock headgasket or felpro, and some studs from Michel (ka24de.com) and you'll be set.

Oh well, you knew about the Cometic :) But, DavEEE, why ew?? They make a great product. I've relied on them for my race car in the past and know other pro's using them currently. I know too many problems with stock head gaskets and high boost; coolant in the wrong places. My experiences have proved the MLS is best when mating an aluminum head to an iron block due to different heat expansion rates ... Stock ew, FelPro ew ;P

Anyway, back on topic ... bearings people ... bearings?

Sounds good!! I would recommend staying with stock bearings since one motor I built withstood 30 psi and 150hp NOS shot no prob. Also, it was utilizing the stock head gasket. Please keep us updated on the Cometic gasket and your project and it's good to see more KA-T monster projects instead of all these SR's:D

Well, thanks for some of the bearing responses. I'm going with Top Line since it's a regular stock item of one of my old suppliers locally.

Bad news though on the donor block ... I dismantled it today only to find spun (very spun) main bearings and slight metal shavings in the piston bearings, obviously with scoring on the crank. I really don't want to start a major rebuild/build-up having to line hone a block and worry about the crank.

So, if I can't find another I'll just have more down time on the car ... eh, can't win 'em all :( I really shouldn't complain since the motor was a freebie, but DAMN, DAMN, DAMN ... okay, I feel better now. Tits everyone.

I used Clevite MS-1949P on my bottom end. Seems to work great so far. These were reccomended by Andy at Specialty Engineering, so I don't think I'll have any problems.

My clevite bearings were only 23 buck from napa if you get them at a shops price--80 bucks from them retail.

Clevite is a good solid name, they make alot of good bearings for alll brands. Top Line aren't bad either, but I'd go Clevite.

If your worried about oil circulation you could always have your bearing oil passages enlarged at a machine shop. Just somthin to think about. Depends on how much time you have and money you want to spend.
