I have a 2007 M35x with 18,000 +/- miles on it. I accidentally left my parking brake on and rode it for 20 miles at 70 mph yesterday. Oops. Now the parking brake will not engage for more than a few minutes. I assume the parking brake is shot. Any chance of other damage? I am bringing the car in to the dealer this week and not looking forward to it....

Welcome to NICO.

I guess an OOPS is in order ...

Under normal circumstances, leaving the parking brake on will show a big red box on the LCD screen telling you the brake is on. Did it not show in your case? If not, then it is possible that it was not engaged totally (which you would probably have felt anyway, I suppose) so the damage was lessened a bit.

Without knowing for sure, it does sound like the parking brake may have been damaged in some way in your car. I guess the dealer trip will tell you the bad news appropriately.

Sorry about that!

Have them check for the ABS sensors as well. If you left the park brake it will heat up so hard that it will melt the sensors, seen this not to often at our shop.

Took it to the dealer today. They had to readjust the parking brake, but claimed they could not detect any damage. Perhaps it was only partially engaged. I will have them check the ABS sensors when I have the oil changed in a few months.
