Im not sure if i have rod knock or not. I was given advice to go check the oil pan for any brass looking stuff. But untill then has anyone here had rod knock before? and what are the symptoms?

Does it get louder after a short time? Or will it slowly get louder? and does it knock constently when you rev it? Or just in a certain rpm.

My car as of now ticks a little. It goes faster when i rev it higher, but its not that loud ithas not seem to gotten any worse. I raced it twice the other night and the ticking seemed the same.....I noticed the ticking after I got my oil change and switched over to synthetic oil last week. i used 10-30 mobil 1 if that helps at all.

I am really hoping to god that the ticking i here is nothng, I have only had this car for like 2 weeks. It would kill me if my beautiful new sr motor is funked up before i even had a chance to really mess with it...

Thanks for your help,Dan

Don't take this as a mechanics point of view or anything but my car was doing the same thing a month or two before it got to the point i didn't wanna drive it any more. I pulled the motor and dropped the pan and sure enough it was full of fine metal shavings, what used to be my #3 crankshaft bearing. And I'm not sure but I think the synthetic oil might have something to do with it too because it seemed to get worse when I switched to synthetic. Check out YouTube for a clip named "Rod Knock" you might have to do some searching but it's there. It shows the hood of a black 240 sounding just like mine did right before I stopped driving it. Good luck.

Found this youtube of rod knock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niHvQ-P00gA

-------- my car does not sound nearly as bad as that. not even close....Its not even the correct sound.

I wonder if the synthetic is messing with the sr? it had regular oil in it when i first did the swap...Maybe i will go back to crap oil.

Is the only way to take off the oil pan is to take out the motor? Can i take off the oil pan with the motor still on?

How long did it take for your motor to sound bad tc240sx?

Yeah that was the clip i was talking about. My car started as a faint ticking and went to what you heard on the clip in about two months or so. And i don't think the only way to get the pan off is to remove the motor but i remember having a he!! of a time trying to get it off while it was in the car. If you can go ahead and use slowasss13's method to try and catch it before it gets too bad, don't want you looking at your sr like i'm looking at mine

ok....so I bought some lucas oil for light sythetic oil to see if it would help with the noise...........and now my noise is gone it seems

I know i hear everyone and the mother say not to use the stuff, but 2x now i have used it in noisy motors and lucas oil has stopped the noise....I recomend that stuff even if others dont like it ( yes I have seen the lucas oil test, and how it foamed up) but for me it seems to work so i say Fu<k it, why not!!

But back to an old problem now.............why is my car bucking at low rpm!!!! My car would be so much faster if this stopped! I have put in a new fuel filter/spark plugs/walbro 255 fuel pump/ brand new air intake filter/ brand new 10-30 mobil 1 ........................

The only thing I can think of now is: 1) Timing is off2) Fuel pressure regulator is not working right3) Coil pack is not working correctly

Does anyone have any other ideas that might be causing this hesitation/bucking crap???I would be so happy if it stopped so I could finally enjoy my new motor

hmmm im not a big fan of getting rid of noise by oil additives. Its more like a bandage than a real fix.

Its probably your lifters that need to be bled or something. Rod knock sounds more like a rattle like your timing chain is hitting the valve cover or something. Ticking is more related to valve train than the bottom end.

glad to hear lucas helped, i tried it to but it is kinda like a band aid. my noise went away too, for a while. and on the bucking it's kind of hard to call, do you have an auto or stick? then we'll see if we can get that sr up and runnin

thanks, ilikemy240sx/tc240sx. you guys have been a big help for me so far....I know its a bandaid fix for right now and i really need to get on bleeding those lifters asap. I watched a youtube on how to bleed them and it looks like i could do that.

The car is a stick of course!!!!

how comman is rod knock in sr20's....it seems a lot of people have had this issue? I wish I would have known this before i went all out on this motor

I say this because the ticking is back and its more then likely rod knock...this sucks..i had a whole 1 week with my new motor before it did this ****....what a waste....oh yeah, and its my only car as of right now to make things even better.....

If this is indeed rod knock I will never stray from honda again.....people talk crap about them all day long, but every honda I have owned has taken a beating and runs great, all of my honda motors went well into the 200,000 mile mark..this motor has a wopping 30,000 miles on it and is causing me problems............ christ all mighty

sorry, im just really upset, and pissed off rabout this right now

dude, how can i not be mad...I got hurt in a really bad car accident and spent all my money into this car. This was supposed to make me feel better, not worse and looking like a dumb ***.I mean 1 week and thats it...what the Fu(k.....Im going to put an end of a screw driver to the oil pan to see if I hear anything...I did it to the valve cover and i didnt hear any ticking.......so im guessing it is comming from the bottom end.

I baught this motor thinking it would be reliable for a few years...all i ever hear about is how the sr is sooo great, and that the bottom end can take 400hp...well my bottom end couldnt even take stock boost.. I was told these are great motors....well i went on to youtube and found more nissans 240sx with rod knock then any other car...even if my car doesnt have rod knock i think im going to get rid of it before it does like so many other peoples sr20's ...its just not worth it in the end. I hate to give up on this car....but this is just retarded $3,000 on a motor to last 1 week...are you kidding me!

Maybe tomorrow i will wake up in a better mood...for now im just pissed and want to run my car through a wall. sorry if im acting like an *** hole
