Rod knock or timing chain/guide/tensioner?

I originally thought it was the valves when the problem first occurred because it was more of a "ticking" sound but after a few months it now sounds like the timing chain/rod knock. The sound seems to be coming from the front of the valve cover but after I watch all the videos I can on youtube of SR20 rod knock it seems to sound a lot similar to it.

Nah, not rod knock... That would come and go as you rev it.Probably not a lifer, as that would be a click-clack kinda noise.It's pretty consistent, I'd say it's probably your chain guide... Probably the one that the chain tensioner pushes on.

Thanks for replying. I need to narrow it down to what it could really be so when I take the motor out I know what to replace.

Best bet would be to pull the valve cover and take a look at the timing chain and guides. Also check for any soft lifters while you're at it .
