Its a vauge question, and hard to answer......on a stock motor, you wont have to worry about it.

If your not stock, then it will depend on your setup, rpm limit, mods etc....

to be safe, people usually upgrade about the 400-450 hp level

but overboosting and detonation can do wonders to any part of the motor....i'd worry about crank bearings before i worried about a rod just 'breaking'...but hey, ya never know right? ......

well its not vague but ok... i come from owning a DSM and they start snapping at around 375-425 depending on who you talk to and what year. of course i would expect things to start coming apart if i were like the other 3/4 idiots out there that either don't tune their car right or just don't tune at all. but provided if the tuning and upgrades support it then i could see your 400-450 mark. thanx

But is that because rods are just breaking? or is it because of crank walk or overboosting etc? do the rods on the dsm's just "break" or is it something else that went wrong that leads the rods to break?

whats 'rod bearing'? maybe we're not talking about the same thing....

You could have a setup with 400whp all day without ever having 'rod' problems, its more likely going to have other problems before the rods start to go..

contrary to popular belief not all dsm's have crankwalk, it is most common on the 95+ 4g63, i'm thinking cause they were built in Korea, but a heavy clutch will wear out the thrust bearings on any car eventually, but the 4g63 was not spec'd right so that is why it is common to them..just felt like telling a little that's all not trying to stir any pots..

eventually any rod will break or bend. my orginal ques was at what point? does anyone know. who here has put down the most on a dyno on a stock bottom end and still has NO problems. and for how long? the reason i want to know is because i don't want to waste my time replacing the rods before i drop the motor in if i don't have to. my to the wheel goal is 425-450 daily. if anyone forsees this to being a problem please tell me why.

thanx
