I spun my #3 rod bearing about 2 weeks ago. Honed the journal with 600 grit coated in fuel, and put all new bearings in. Cranked up last night, and what do I hear? Rod knock once again.

I have decided to pull the engine and put everything brand-new inside. I cannot, however, find connecting rods. My local Nissan dealer cannot even order them. Where can I find some rods?

You live under a rock? There's quite a few rod makers now. Try eagle rods for starters.

Also, try & find the original cause of your knocking.

you could of measured your journals or plastigauged them to see what size bearings you would need.

so when you bought bearings what did you buy? did you buy the correct grade bearings, or just std size in non nissan bearings?

and i hope you plastigaged them too. sorry man, it really sucks to have to go through this twice, but i think you may have missed some stuff by being over-eager

yes, I used the plastigauge. I was in spec for oil clearance, so I do not know what caused the bearing to re-spin. I bought Clevite std, but since I am redoing, I have ordered new bearing from local nissan dealer. I had to get grade 2 for 1,2, and 4; and a 0.08 upsize for #3. I cannot find rods, I must live under a rock. My internet acess is limited to 20 minutes/wk. I do not order from internet anyways. If I cannot walk in and pay cash, I do not want it.

But some good came of this mishap. My old project is back on boil. I have the engine ready except for driver's side header and radiator. Here it comes....560sx!

Take the crank and rods to a machine shop and have them re size the rods and check the crank to make sure is is not out of round.
