You had them reversed and they broke? Even reversed, they shouldn't break. That's really odd.

Anyways, you can order new ones from Nissan. They're identical to the shims/guides in a Sentra SE-R. However, there are 17 different thicknesses for the shims. Nissan wants you to actually measure the distance from the top of the rocker guide to the top of it's adjoined valve stem (the one the shim would be on) That way the rocker arm stays level between the valves and it doesn't have uneven wear from the cam lobe.

The only issue is actually measuring that crap. Nissan has special tool to mount a dial gauge to and it's rarer than about anything I've ever tried to buy. My suggestion is to buy the rocker guides, then measure their thicknesses and order matching shims. It's not perfect, but it's better than tossing random shim thicknesses in.

Or you can send the head off to someone like Maxworks to get it shimmed.

Those are tomei guides. Used for when you convert to solid pivots to rid the motor of the HLAs. I would really recommend not running those unless you convert to solid pivots.

Just call up your local Nissan dealer and order some shims. In fact, if you look on our parts sticky on page 2, SpeedRacer has the entire motor parts list from the FAST program listed with every part number imaginable. And all the shim thicknesses are there.

Also, any sentra that came with an SR will do if you order that way. I usually use a '97 SE-R when I order.

Here's two links to the Mazworx site guys

http://www.mazworx.com/home/index.cfm http://www.mazworx.com/store/?...=true

They charge $140 to shim an SR head that still has the HLA's.

You should have seen me on friday. I had next to no sleep Thursday (from drinking too much damned caffeine) so I had to load up on coffee just to stay concious. I'm surprised I didn't vibrate all the screws loose from my office chair. I was non-stop bounce the whole day. My co-workers couldn't understand what I was saying I was talking so fast.

^ You didn't reassemble your motor when you were like that did you lol. There's a local (somewhat) coffee shop that you just reminded me of, Jittery Joe's. You can start your own coffee shop and call it Bouncing Bart's!

That's not a half bad idea actually....there was a local coffee joint that was doing really well but shut down. Don't know why, but it would be cool to take over the old spot and make something out of it. Oh if I only had the venture capital.

I wasn't drinking coffee when I put my motor together. Just some Captain

Even better! lol. Pirates ftw! I used to know a coffee shop owner. She told me that if she did not sell food (sandwiches, soups, simple stuff) and ice cream, she would not have made enough to keep the shop open.

They sold food at the shop. You really do have to because you don't make that much off the drinks. There's a lot of overhead in running a shop like that, and the markup on the coffee isn't really that much once you start thinking of operating costs.

You got it right. The rocker guide isn't as precisely cut as the shims are, but that's why you match a new shim to it when you replace either of the valves or the rocker guide.
