This doesn't have to do with my J30T but instead my 1992 Ford Explorer. I just bought some shocks for it at a deep discount because they were a manufacturers closeout ($11.05 per shock instead of the normal $33.00 for genuine Motorcraft shocks). But the package indicates they were made in 1993, and delivered to a Ford dealer in 1998. They look brand new, but I am wondering if the gas charge could have leaked out after 18 years even though they had never been used? They look identical to the OEM shocks currently on the vehicle, and were made by Ford.
Should I try to return them or keep them? I assume they would still be better than what I have on the SUV now.
There still must be some gas inside because if I compress the shock by hand it slowly pushes back out when I let go.

They should still be good, especially at that bargain basement price.

Shocks have no shelf life issues as long as they are stored in a dry place, great price, enjoy em!

One of the front struts I got for my j30 from Rock Auto is also very OLD. But the rears were nice... I guess Rock is hit or miss.
